SSI Instructor Training Course

The SSI Instructor Training Course is the state-of-the-art Instructor course. It includes an Academic portion, confined water sessions and open water sessions over 8 – 10 days. This is the absolute minimum required. Real times can vary depending on students experience and level in the water.

All the academic study must be completed online or offline before arriving to Utila. This allows more time for practical sessions and better preparing you for the classroom and open water teaching sessions. After you complete your online training and your first 4 days of the Instructor Training Course (ITC) you will take the SSI Assistant Instructor exam.

You will then continue on and complete the remaining 4 – 6 days of the ITC. Assuming the Instructor Trainer feels you are ready, they will schedule an Instructor Exam (IE) which can take 2 days and is conducted by an impartial outside Instructor Certifier. The certifier is just conducting a very small version of the ITC to verify that your Instructor Trainer has prepared you to start teaching immediately.

As part of our ITC we are also going to teach you React Right and Science of Diving Instructor roles so that once completed you will be able to get your students all the way from Open Water to Dive Master!
